Editing your work

To start off with, I hope everyone has had an amazing Christmas and new year. I have been spending my frosty mornings browsing Pinterest and my chilly evenings typing away on ,y new typewriter! See my instagram below ( I don't know if it is working but we'll see).

Ok, so lets talk about editing. It is a long process of going through our work; picking and changing sections. I usually dread this step because I never know how to make things better. Now you might be thinking: why are you making this post? Well, I have thought of ways to help me and others reach the point where they are thoroughly content with their work.

First, you want to read through it at least three times. Everyone says it but it is essential for successful writing. Reading out loud can help you spot mistakes that you don't see when reading in your head. If you want to take it a step further, get someone to read it for you. They will be able to spot any silly mistakes and errors.

If you are unhappy with the flow or general style of your story, you can compare it to a book. It might sound a bit weird but it will help. If you read a bit of a story with a similar style that you want to achieve, you can compare it with your current piece and put it back on track.

Another tip is for if your writing is too long. Read through a section and think; does this add anything good to my story? If it does, leave it in or only slightly change it if necessary. If not, cut it. This is like the method of sorting through your things.

I know this blog is quite short but I will have a better one next time. I hope that you have a great day and don't forget to comment topic ideas down below.
