So, let's set the scene. Your in the middle of writing your next story and you read over and quickly lose interest, why? Well it's usually because you haven't included certain things which make your writing pop. There are many ways you can do this, here are a few of them.
Write about what you know
Write about something you have experienced or something you are very familiar with. People who write about war, usually were in the war. People who write about real life issues probably dealt with that. It makes your writing seem more realistic and believable.
Use Writing techniques
Try to include some of the following in your writing to make more exciting: simile, metaphor, personification, zoomorphism and use the five senses. Describing this as like something or being something it's not can make good pictures in the readers head. Using the 5 senses and make it feel as if your in another world (onomatopoeia to hear, similes and metaphors to see, etc)
Play with your sentence structure
You can try varying the sentence structure. Try doing short sentences or maybe experiment with new punctuation. Try and start with an adverbial phrase or a noun. Starting with and adjective or verb can make the piece seem dramatic.
